According to Collingwood, art is an essential part of the mind and expression and not just something that people do in their spare time. He agrees that some art is craft, that it serves a functional purpose as well as an aesthetic one, but that not all art has a legitimate function in society. Some art, is just that, art made for aesthetics.
Magic, which often goes into the making of art, is emotion in a ritualized form. It is just another method of expression, therefore, magic and art go hand in hand. The artist, or magician, uses art to not only recognize himself and his emotions, but to connect to others in a collaborative method.
I agree that art may be made just for the sake of evoking emotion, but I believe that art that is a craft as well shows skill and artisanship that combines something emotional and thought provoking with a functional element.
